chief complaint: stroke rehabilitation

A 20 year old woman was partially paralyzed on her left side following a stroke. She was also a diabetic with very poorly controlled blood sugar and insulin levels. This patient came for acupuncture about 3 months after the stroke. At that time she was also receiving physical, occupational, and speech therapy. She was about 50% improved overall. She suffered frequent migraines with vomiting that exacerbated her unstable blood sugar.

This patient received about 25 acupuncture sessions as part of her rehabilitation program. She regained some sensation and movement in the affected arm, wrist, and leg. After some time she was able to walk without a brace. The acupuncture helped clear up her headaches and fatigue and helped stabilize her blood sugar.
